  • CHAPTER COMMITTEES

    The Washington, DC Alumni Chapter has organized several standing and special committees. These committees meet as needed upon direction from their chairpersons. These committees need your help with providing leadership, creativity, and expertise. Below are brief descriptions of each committee:

    Benevolence/Hospitality

    • Extends understanding, sympathy, prayers, support, and services to members of the chapter who are ill, lost a loved one, or to the family of a deceased alumnus/alumna.
    • Sponsors and conducts outreach activities and events that welcome new members and promote fellowship throughout the chapter.

    Community Service

    • Identifies and proposes community service projects.
    • Serves as a liaison between the chapter and outside community-based organizations.
    • Orchestrates the Marion Johnson Day of Service.

    Events

    • Develops and proposes events and programs for the fiscal year.
    • Prepares and manages budgets for chapter events and programs.
    • Coordinates the programming and logistics for Founders’ Day.

      Finance and Fundraising

      • Review budgets from the various chapter committees and prepare a consolidated annual budget for the chapter.
      • Help identify, cultivate, and solicit sponsorships from local businesses and corporations.
      • The committee coordinates activities and events to raise funds for the University and to support the operations of the chapter.

        Membership

        • Identifies the needs of members and recommends to the chapter the development of services to meet those needs.
        • Recruit alumni to become active members and maintain outreach to existing members.
        • Responsible for marketing the benefits of membership and raising awareness of the value of membership in the DC Chapter and National Association.

          ​Communications

          • Responsible for managing and improving the chapter’s online presence, organizational processes including the website.
          • Creates content and maintains the chapter’s social media accounts to raise awareness of the university and the role the chapter plays in the community.
          • Oversees all advertising and promotion needs for chapter events and develops a social media plan through Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter.

              Student Recruitment

              • Participates in college fairs, visit high schools, and other events to promote the university and to recruit students.
              • Encourages student referral, organizes, and hosts events for prospective students and their families in the DC, Maryland, and Virginia areas.
